The Two Kingdoms

"Kingdom of Heaven" VS "Kingdom of God"

When it comes to the Gospel of salvation, there is a lot of confusion. Did Jesus preach the Gospel that we are to believe today, or is there a total different Gospel all together? Some will tell you there are 2 or maybe even 3 gospels. This error is due to a few things, such as not studying, and "rightly dividing the word of truth" as commanded in 2 Timothy 2:15. Another reason is, instead of reading the Bible themselves, they put their faith in their pastors and denominational leaders because they were "Educated" and hold these certificates so many think this makes these people smarter. Many don't realize "religion" today in ways like the Lutherans, Catholics, Methodist, and yes, even some Baptist, is nothing more than a business. The more they get you in to fill the seats the more they can get out of the offering plate, tithes, and better deductions on taxes, you know, 501(c)3? They tend to lean on their catechisms and sacraments and church bi-laws rather than adhere to the true teachings of scripture. Placing that "yoke of bondage" on people that Paul warns us about. 

Let the truth be known here and now, there is only one Gospel of salvation. It's the "applications" (sorta speak) of that one Gospel that has changed depending on the dispensation and "kingdom" that is being discussed, not the gospel itself. Its like the fine details of the Gospel that change depending on people, time period, etc. 

 

There is however two Kingdom's mentioned which I believe this is the major cause of confusion. I have to admit, it had me confused for a while as well. Not understanding the two kingdoms can mess you up in other doctrines and teachings. One big example is the "Rapture" (caught up), the catching away of the "body of Christ" (1 Thessalonians 4:17). You may see why as you read along. I had a pastor explain the two kingdoms to me this way.

"Jesus preached the Kingdom of Heaven (the earthly reign) but as He was preaching that and being rejected, He also taught things pertaining to the Kingdom of God and began laying the groundwork for His Church.

So, there is the "rightly dividing the word of truth" issue that causes so many problems among Bible readers. In certain contexts, Jesus was speaking to the Jews and offering the Kingdom on earth. But as the rejection became stronger and the Cross approached ever closer... His attention turned more and more toward the Kingdom of God.

Of course, when people pretend there is just one Kingdom and do not "rightly divide" between the Kingdom of God and Kingdom of Heaven, then they also get many other things wrong." - Pastor Gregory Miller (bbfohio.com)


That explanation helped me understand the difference, as I hope it helps you. Much like in the book of Acts, we see a transition. From the "dispensation of mosiac law" or some call "covenant law" slowly transition over to the "dispensation of grace", so does the gospel (as in Kingdoms) in which Christ was offering as the Cross crept closer and closer. The "covenant law" ended when Jesus revealed the "Mysteries" to Paul. The "Kingdom of Heaven" was put on hold with the stoning of Stephen. 

 

Also Note: The Book of "Hebrews" also transitions. But that is for another time and another topic. 

 

First kingdom mentioned and offered is the "Kingdom of Heaven (Earthly Reign) and slowly transitions over to "Kingdom of God" (heavenly reign, or spiritual). As we go through looking at the similarities and differences, I will be using scriptures and explinations to help you picture it. Scripture must support scripture without any contradicions. 

Which Kingdom, and why two different ones? First we need to know what God's plan is and was from the beginning. let's look at some scriptures in the Old Testament (OT) to see what God says his plans are for his chosen people and nation. 


 Genesis 17: [8], And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. [9], And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. [10], This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. 

 

Genesis 17:12, And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. 
 

Genesis 17:19, And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

 

Genesis 26:4, And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; 

 

Exodus 19:[6] And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

 

We can see that God made a covenant with Abraham and through his seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed. With this covenant he will be their God, and they also was promised land and a Kingdom. This covenant went from Abraham, to Isaac, to Jacob, and to the 12 sons of Jacob. One of those sons, named Judah, from him, would come the King, which we know is Jesus The Lion of the tribe of Judah. 

Before Israel had a king, God gave instructions to his people for earthly kings and kingdoms in preparation for the ONE TRUE King, and the promised Kingdom. 


Deuteronomy 17: [18] And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: [19] And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: [20] That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel. 

We later see that the Kingdom of David and Solomon, etc. eventually failed. The future kings got into pagan rituals, worshiping pagan gods, etc. which shows they did not keep the commandments and instructions given by God (Deut. 17:18-20). From this time on they was ruled by gentile kings and gentile kingdoms (Hint: Rome for example).

There is a King coming and one who will not fail. King Jesus, The Word of God! Amen! 

Now we will discuss the kingdoms. Many will have you believe that there are contradictions in your bible at this point. They do not realize there are different dispensations, or they do not rightly divide as I mentioned above. Making the distinctions between the two Kingdoms and paying attention to "context". Like I said, I too was guilty of this.

 

NOTE: I think most of us who come at the Bible on our own do make these mistakes time to time. Especially depending on your religous background. Myself, growing up as a Lutheran, I was not taught to "rightly divide" and I was also told and taught, not to question your pastors and leaders... Now I know why... Lets continue... Some of the contradictions or the things that will confuse someone if you don't "rightly divide" are the two Kingdoms as I mentioned earlier. Things that are different are not the same! Remember this. Let's look at the two Kingdoms. 

Similarities and Differences

 

 

Similarities:

Both Kingdoms will be established on the earth during the millennium. 

Kingdom of God: 

Mark 1:[14] Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, [15] And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Kingdom of Heaven: Jesus said,

Matthew 3: [1] In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, [2] And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Both Kingdoms have mysteries. 

Kingdom of Heaven:

Matthew 13:[11] He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

Kingdom of God:

Luke 8:[10] And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.

Both Kingdoms are pictured in the parable of leaven

Kingdom of Heaven:

Matthew 13:[33] Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

Kingdom of God:

Luke 13:[20] And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? [21] It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

 

As I have said before, Things that are different are not the same. Or as Pastor Greg says, "Similarity is not sameness". Now if one was to do a once look over or just skim through these scriptures, it may seem the two Kingdoms are the same thing. When in fact, if we look at the differences, we clearly see they are not.

Differences:

Some differences may be hard to see. For instance, the "kingdom of heaven" is only offered to the Jews and the Nation of Israel. Make note also, "kingdom of heaven" is only mentioned in the Book of Matthew. 

Kingdom of God: (Heavenly Reign) This Kingdom is Spiritual
John 18:[36] Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. 

Luke 17: [20] And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: [21] Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Romans 14:[17] For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Kingdom of Heaven: (Earthly Reign) (This kingdom is a real physical place) 

Matthew 25:[31] When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: [32] And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: [33] And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. [34] Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Matthew 11:[12] And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Entrance in the Kingdom of God:

John 3:[3] Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Notice: The gospel is mentioned by way of being born again. This is a Spiritual Kingdom! In this dispensation, when someone puts their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, they are baptized INTO Jesus Christ (see Romans 6:3, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Galatians 3:27). When this happens, you are "born again" and now members of the Kingdom of God. We know this today as "by grace through faith" or "dispensation of grace" as it is commonly referred to today. 

Entrance in the Kingdom of Heaven: Is based upon your opposition to anti-christ and alliance with Israel (Pro Israel). You must endure to the end of "Jacobs Trouble" (also known as "Daniels 70th week" and "The Great Tribulation"). You cannot take the mark of the beast and must have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is known as "faith plus works" as many today refer to it.    

Matthew 25:[31] When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: [32] And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: [33] And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. [34] Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: [35] For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: [36] Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. [37] Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? [38] When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? [39] Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? [40] And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.  Notice: Nothing mentioned about the gospel as in the "Dispensation of Grace". After this great tribulation when God judge the earth and poured out his wrath, those that survived he seperated the good from the evil (sheep from the goats). The evil (Goats) are casted into Hell, and the good (sheep) at his right hand. He then tells the good, "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." 

 

Population (Demographics):

Kingdom of God:

1 Corinthians 6: [9] Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, [10] Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. [11] And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. How is someone made righteous today? Let's look at what Paul tells us. 

Romans 3:22, Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 


Romans 3:25, Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 


Romans 3:26, To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 

Kingdom of Heaven:

Matthew 13: [41] The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; Note: Here angels are gathering those in the Kingdom who are offensive, and do iniquity. Iniquity means sin, wickedness, and unrighteousness. These are those the angels are gathering to throw into Hell. This is not the rapture. 

We must note, that we are made righteous and saved by our faith in Jesus Christ's death, burial, and resurrection (1 Cor. 15:1-4). 

Another difference is the "duration" of the Kingdoms

Duration of the Kingdoms:

Kingdom of God: "for ever and ever"

Hebrews 1:[8] But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 

Kingdom of Heaven: "1,000 years". 

Revelation 20:[4] And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

1 Corinthians 15: [24] Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. [25] For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. Notice: Here the kingdom (Kingdom of Heaven) is delivered up TO God, Not the kingdom OF God. 

I'll say it again, because it can't be said enough. Things that are different are not the same. IF someone was to just skim through these scriptures, they will get the two mixed up or claim they both are the same. When in fact, after looking at the differences, we clearly see they are not.

The Kingdom of God:

Is universal, sovereign rule of God, in the hearts of men and eternally beyond this temporary world. How do we know it's not earthly physical? Jesus speaks of this place: 

John 14:2, In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [3], And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. We know the Father's house is not on this earth!​ (See also John 18:36).

The Kingdom of Heaven:

Is the Rule of Jesus Christ over an earthly physical kingdom. 

The Pupose and Roll for the two Kingdoms

 

Keep in mind, the similarities and differences we already discussed as we explore the different rolls and purpose for each kingdom in context. As I expand on this, knowing the doctrinal difference between the terms "Kingdom of Heaven" and "Kingdom of God" is the key to understanding the complete time line of Biblical history Past, Present, and Future, the proper place of the "Church" and the prophetic future of Israel. The Bible is about the struggle for a Kingdom; the Kingdom of Heaven, a Kingdom with its Capital City (Jerusalem) on this Earth. 

I think it may be safe to say everyone already knows or should know, Israel rejected the Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah when He first came because the religious rulers of Israel were only looking for a political Messiah King who would make Israel the ruling kingdom of the world. (See Jeremiah 23:5, Psalms 48:2.) They were expecting a warrior leader who would deliver them militarily and politically from the Romans and the rest of the heathen. They were expecting carnal deliverance. Because of their hardened hearts, and their legalistic and ritualistic zeal for works,and traditions they were blind to their need for spiritual deliverance and the true righteousness of God, which must be born into the heart. That is what led them to ask this of Jesus:

Luke 17: [20] And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: [21] Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

In that statement, Jesus was declaring a spiritual truth that Israel as a nation or as a whole did not see. But on another occasion, when asked about His Kingdom by Pontius Pilate, He said it in a different way:

John 18: [36] Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

In this particular passage the word "now" is not speaking about the spiritual Kingdom of God (within the heart of the redeemed), but of a literal political Kingdom yet to come on this Earth ("kingdom of heaven"). You should also take note that the word "now" has been removed from many newer Bible translations (NASB, AMP, NLT, ESV, CEV). The reason is because most of the translators of today's "Bibles" are Amillennial in their position on prophecy. In other words, they do not accept the literal return of the Lord Jesus Christ to reign on the Earth for a thousand years as foretold in in the book of Revelations.

Although that truth is rejected by a major portion of "Christianity" today, His Jewish disciples knew what He was speaking of and they pointedly asked when the literal Kingdom would come:

Acts 1: [6] When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? [7] And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. [8] But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The disciples were clearly asking about a literal Kingdom, and the Lord says it is not for them to know the time when that literal Kingdom (the Kingdom of Heaven) will take place. Until that time the disciples were given power to preach the Kingdom of God; righteousness through faith in the risen Savior who will return to Earth one day and rule over the whole Earth from Jerusalem.

This is one of the most hated and least understood doctrines of the Bible, yet one of the most important in rightly dividing the truth; the separation of Church Age doctrine from Tribulation doctrine. Some churches do not want to hear this, because they think that the Church has replaced Israel (Hint: Replacement Theology). Certainly the whole world reviles at the prospect of hated Israel becoming the head of the Kingdoms. There is a hatred of Christians and Jews on a spiritual level that is beyond the unsaved world's comprehension. Satan hates the Jews and this present evil world (see Galatians 1:4) is under Satan's spiritual control. Hate and envy are the root reasons the word "now" is removed from John 18:36 in some translations. The unsaved world does not want the Lord Jesus Christ to return and rule over them. That is why the religious Jews killed their King the first time He came. Here is what their King will say about that when He returns:

Luke 19: [27] But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay [them] before me.

There will be a big attitude difference between the Lord's first coming as the gentle Lamb of God and His Second Coming as the warrior King, the Lion of Judah:

Revelation 19: [11] And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. [12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. [13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. [14] And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. [15] And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

The Lord Jesus Christ came to His own and preached a dualistic message. To the Jews, the heirs of the promised political Kingdom, the Lord preached the Gospel of the "Kingdom of Heaven" - a literal physical Kingdom soon to come: 

Matthew 4: [17] "From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

To the Jews and the entire Gentile world, He preached the coming "Kingdom of God" - righteousness and holiness:

Mark 1: [14]"Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."

Because the Lord used the terms "Kingdom of Heaven" and "Kingdom of God" interchangeably in places in the four Gospels, most Christians think they are one and the same. They will be, but not until the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ when He rules the world for a thousand years on the throne of His father David (His father in the flesh, His human side) at Jerusalem. This is when the two kingdoms will be on earth at the same time. Till then, Only the Kingdom of God is here, because it is "within you". 

 

Let me put it like this. We know the Father, the Word (the Son), and the Holy Spirit, these three are one (1 John 5:7). Where ANY of those are, there is the "Kingdom of God". HINT: the "kingdom of God is within you" (Luke 17:20-21). Why did Jesus preach both at the same time? Because Jesus (God) was on earth, offering them a physical literal Kingdom ("Kingdom of Heaven"). When they rejected the physical kingdom ("Kingdom of Heaven") by rejecting their king (Jesus), Jesus slowly started to offer the "Kingdom of God" more and more, a spiritual kingdom. HINT: Being Born Again (John 3:3). Which is why Jesus said to Pontius Pilate before he was crucified. Because the "Kingdom of Heaven" was not there yet, the Jews was rejecting him.  

John 18: [36] "Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence."

As I mentioned, If you rightly divide the Bible, you will see that Jesus was preaching about two (2) components of the Kingdom. He preached that the political kingdom (Kingdom of Heaven) was coming, and if the Jews had accepted Him after His death and resurrection, He would have come back and established it after seven years of tribulation, as foretold in the prophecies:

Daniel 9: [24] Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. [25] Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. [26] And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. [27] And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

While often overlooked in discussions of the kingdoms, Luke 19:41-44 is strategic for understanding the kingdom program. This teaches that kingdom blessings were presented to Israel, but national calamity would now occur because of unbelief. Verse 41 states: [41] "And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,"

As Jesus came eastward from the Mount of Olives for the short remainder of the travel to Jerusalem His emotions were not that of joy. Verses 42-44 tell why:

Luke 19: [42] Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. [43] For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, [44] And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

The reason for this emotional display was Jesus' sorrow for Israel. He wept for Israel like a parent weeping for a lost or wayward child. Israel's rejection of her caring Messiah will result in terrible consequences even though they were blind to these coming results. 

Jesus points out that there was something significant about "at least in this thy day", "If thou hadst known, even thou, the things which belong unto thy peace!" (v. 42).

The reference to "this thy day" is emphatic and reveals that there is something about this particular day that makes Jesus sorrowful. But why? The reason is that "this thy day" had the potential to bring things which make for peace. Israel's Messiah on this day could bring the kingdom and its blessings. This "peace" must be more than just individual salvation. Jesus addressed Jerusalem, the capital city of Israel like a person—"even thou" "If thou hadst known" By addressing Jerusalem, Jesus is addressing Israel as a nation. 

 

Peace could have come to Israel on this day but such will not be the case. Instead, peace will be "hid from thine eyes" from them and judgment will come. He tells them that enemies will surround Jerusalem and utterly destroy the city. The people including the children will be destroyed and no stone would be left intact. The reason for this is "because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation" Israel's visitation was the appearance of her Messiah who proclaimed the nearness of the kingdom (see Matt 4:17). 

It was so near, in fact, after Christ rose and when Stephen was preaching to the Pharisees as they were stoning him, Acts 7: [54] "When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth." The Lord Jesus was standing up from His seat in the third heaven ready to come back, to save the Jews (Rapture), pour his wrath upon the heathen cleansing Jerusalem, the earth and establish the Kingdom that was promised. The "Kingdom of Heaven". 

Acts 7: [55] But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, [56] And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

This is the only time it is noted that Jesus is STANDING ON rather than sitting at the right hand of God the Father. Reason Jesus was standing is because he was ready to come build the earthly kingdom. But, it didn't happen, because they rejected him. Now, the "Kingdom of Heaven" will have to wait (More on this later...).  Jesus told the Pharasee's before he was crucified,

 

Matthew 23: [13] But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. 
 

God gave the Jews and Nation of Israel 3 chances. The Pharasee's rejected each time. 

1. They rejected
God the Father when John the Baptist was preaching in the wilderness, baptizing and cleansing making way for the Messiah. The Pharasee's rejected this baptism... Strike ONE,

Matthew 3: [1] In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, [2] And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. [3] For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. [4] And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. [5] Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, [6] And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. 

[7] But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 

2. They rejected God the Son when they had Jesus crucified. Strike two, 

Mark 15: [13] And they cried out again, Crucify him. [14] Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him. 

3. They rejected God the Spirit when they stoned Stephen. Strike Three, "Kingdom of Heaven" will be postponed. 

Acts 7: [57] Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, [58] And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. [59] And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

To show by the Scriptures the difference between the terms "Kingdom of Heaven" and "Kingdom of God," the Holy Spirit has put this little nugget of truth within the Gospel of Matthew:

Matthew 11: [12] And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Ask yourself this question: If the "Kingdom of God" is within you, and if the "Kingdom of God" and "Kingdom of Heaven" are the same thing, how could anyone take it out of you by violence? And if that righteousness, i.e. the Kingdom of God within you, could not possibly be there until after the cross and the resurrection, what is Jesus saying to the Jews here BEFORE the cross and the resurrection? The answer is the Kingdom of Israel, which is God's people and Jerusalem, the Lord's chosen place from which to rule:

Matthew 5: [34] But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: [35] Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. 

Israel rejected their King when He came the first time. Since then, "Kingdom of Heaven" has been postponed, not canceled. BUT, His Kingdom ("Kingdom of God") has been in a MYSTERY form; the Lord Jesus Christ reigning in the heart of the believer (Hint: Being born again, and baptized by one spirit INTO one body), and yet seated on the right hand of the Father in the third heaven...

Colossians 1: [26] Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: [27] To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

His own people rejected His salvation, God has been chastising Israel, while blessings and salvation have gone out to the Gentiles. However, God is not finished with Israel, but He is just about finished with the Gentiles. The Gentiles' time is running out. The Apostle Paul said this:

Romans 11: [25] For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. [26] And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 

We are living in the last days of the blessing to the Gentiles. The Jews are back in the land of Israel (although the Arab world does not recognize it as "Israel" but insists on calling it "Palestine"). Regardless of the name, it is still the land that God promised to Abraham and his seed through Isaac and Jacob, not through the line of Ishmael. That is the ancient root of contention still festering today over the issue of the land.

The Jews have returned to the land as prophesied in the Scriptures, but they are still in unbelief about Jesus. Although they are the enemies of the Gospel of Grace by the Lord Jesus Christ, they are still God's people and He will use the present evil world to chastise them, open their eyes to the truth they rejected, and bring them again to Him.

Romans 11: [28] As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. [29] For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. [30] For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: 

That is the truth of the matter, a truth that is bitterly denied by the whole world. The "Church" or "Body of Christ" will be raptured, taken out of the way, (only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. [8] And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:" 2 Thessalonians 2:7). Then the "Wicked", the "man of sin", the "prince", the "son of perdition", shall be revealed. 7 years (1 week) of "Jacobs trouble" begins (Jeremiah 30:7). 

Revelation 11: [15] And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

 

 

The "Church", "Body of Christ", and the "Rapture"

 

 

The "Fall" 

Some say, and I have had them ask me or tell me, "Jesus never spoke about the "Church" or "Body of Christ" so what you say can't be so. Well, in a way you are correct, but I believe this is also wrong. He may have not come right out and spoke about it, or gave long "parables" talking about the "rapture" or "body of Christ" and the "Church". BUT, Jesus gave us little hints and clues, in the form of analogies, I'll explain and show you why I believe this. 

Now before I continue, I want to make myself clear. I am no way saying Jesus absolutely prophesied in the coming of the "Church", or "Body of Christ". But showing the transition that is taking place from the message of "Kingdom of Heaven" to "Kingdom of God". Its a "TYPE" or "Similar" comparison. You can accept and believe, or ignore it. Chew the meat, and spit out the bones... That is up to you. It doesn't count for or against your salvation or faith in the Lord Jesus.

Here we will look at some scripture of Jesus telling his disciple's on who NOT to take the gospel message to. And what "Kingdom" message they was sent to preach.

Matthew 10:5-7, [5] These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: [6] But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. [7] And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Matthew 15:24, [24] But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

We notice that the "Kingdom of Heaven" was the message that was ONLY to be sent to the Jews and the nation of Israel. Also note (as I said before), The Book of Matthew is the ONLY book that mentions the "Kingdom of Heaven". As I mentioned before, the kingdom message is transitional. The more he was rejected by the Jews and the Nation of Israel, the more he spoke about the "Kingdom of God". So what happened? Why did they reject their King? Jesus said, Matthew 22:29, Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. We see the Jews didn't know their own scriptures. If they did, they would have known their King would be the One True King. They would have known when, and where and how he was coming. Instead, only a few knew and believed. John the Baptist said,
 

John 1:29, The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 

 

The Pharasee's and religious leaders err'd because they knew not the scriptures. They rejected Jesus Christ as their King, and said they already had a king (John 19:15). They relied on mostly their "traditions". Sound familiar? Much like those today. We can see part of the transition that was taking place. 

In the Same Book of Matthew in Chapter 15, it is starting to slowly transition to the "Kingdom of God". In an analogy, I believe many miss, let's say, gives a hint of the Gentiles future salvation (we later find out is the "Kingdom of God" or also known later as the "Dispensation of Grace" revealed through the mystery revelation by the Apostle Paul.) Let's take a look at it. 

Matthew 15:[25] Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. [26] But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. [27] And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. [28] Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. 

Here we can see a Gentile (Canaanite) woman coming to the Lord and cried to him to have mercy on her, her daughter was vexed with a devil (possessed). Christ first ignored it, and his disciples came up to him, and asked him to send her away, and the Lord spoke and said he was not sent but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel (Jews "Kingdom of Heaven"). The gentile woman comes up to the Lord and worships Jesus and pretty much begs him to help her. Jesus replies with an analogy you might say, stating, "It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs."  What Christ was saying is I came to preach the "kingdom of heaven" to the Jews, and is not right for you to take what is promised to them. Now remember the covenant made with Abraham. Now before I go further, I want to clear some things up. Many people take this encounter of the Canaanite woman and say Jesus called her a dog. This is not true, it is merely an analogy Christ is using here. Many of us have a dog or has had one at one time. When you are eating or snacking on something the dog will sit there and beg for some. Jesus is pretty much saying the same thing here using it as an example of her begging. The woman's reply is remarkable. She knows this is true and yet, she also knows he is Lord and savior. Her faith proves it. She replies by saying, "Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."  Now how many of us have given leftovers or a bone to our pets because they beg? I know I have. Notice Jesus's reply, "Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour."  

 

Here I believe, (and some will probably disagree) this to be a foretelling or a type of the "dispensation of grace". It was this woman's faith believing Jesus was Lord, which Christ seen, and he made her daughter whole. Also notice it was a "gentile" woman, using the analogy of crumbs "which fall". Compare that to what Paul tells us about the Jews and Israel as a nation in Romans 11:11, I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. 

What an amazing thing to see the similarity between the gentile woman "eat the cumbs which fall from their masters' table" in Matthew 15, and Pauls message about the Jews and Nation of Israel's fall which brought salvation to come unto the Gentiles. 

The "ROCK"

Another similar analogy one I believe foretells the fore coming of the "dispensation of grace" (the "Church") is when Christ speaks about the "rock". Matthew 16:18, And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Now the RCC (Roman Catholic Church) has taken the verse and claims Peter was the first pope. Again, this goes back to building an earthly kingdom rather than paying attention and comparing scripture with scripture. 

Why do I feel this to be a foretelling of the "dispensation of grace" (the "Church")? Let's look at what Paul tells us.
1 Corinthians 10:[1] Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; [2] And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; [3] And did all eat the same spiritual meat; [4] And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. Here, Paul tells us that the rock is Christ. But let's look at a few other scriptures.

Deuteronomy 32: [3] Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. [4] He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

2 Samuel 22:2, ¶ And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; 

Psalms 18:2, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength,1 in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. 
 

Psalms 18:46, The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. 

Here we see scripture tells us The Lord Jesus is the "Rock". What does it have to do with Peter? Glad you asked... Who was one of the first apostles to receive the Holy Spirit at Pentecost? Peter! When you are baptized by the Holy Spirit, you are baptized INTO Jesus Christ. Paul mentions this very thing. 

 

Romans 16:7, Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me. 

 

Romans 6:3, Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

1 Corinthians 12:13, For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

This shows that Peter and all those that was there at Pentecost was the first ones into the "Body of Christ" aka the "Church". Now this totally blows the "Hyper-Dispensationalist" beliefs out of the water. They believe there is more than one Gospel, and more than one "Church". They over divide and causes much confusion and contradictions. So keep that in mind, if someone tells you there is more than one church, or body of Christ... If they won't accept the truth, kick the dust off your feet, and walk away. 

We have to keep in mind, Paul is preaching the same gospel as Jesus Christ did. Only difference in Paul's message is he received the revelation of the mysteries, among a few other things. "Body of Christ", "Church", "By Grace through Faith", "Rapture" (catching away). Those parables Christ spoke, Paul was given the mysteries to those parables (See Romans 16:25).

 

I believe Paul was "raptured" up to the third heaven (Just as John was in Revelation) and received these mysteries (See 2 Corinthians Chapter 12). I see it as, Paul in his epistles about the "Body of Christ" (The "Church"), as John was in "Revelation" about the "Great Tribulation" ("Jacobs Trouble") and the 1,000 year reign of Christ.  

 

 

You can accept those two "TYPES" or "SIMILAR" comparisons or ignore them. That is up to you. 


The "Rapture"
Once you clearly understand the differences, purpose, and rolls for each Kingdom, that will answer the "rapture" issue. Understanding this will blow the "Post-Trib" rapture belief out of the water, especially when you look at the Kingdoms correctly. Why you ask?

 

In Matthew 24 & 25 which are the chapters the post tribbers like to use to support their belief of the "Post Trib" position. Only ONE Kingdom is mentioned and being talked about here... Know which one? Kingdom of Heaven, the Earthly Kingdom for the Jews and Nation of Israel. Hint: "Jacob's Trouble" Jacob was named what? Israel (Genesis 32:28, Matthew 25:1,14). Understanding the "CONTEXT" will make it all clear. Compare salvation message in those chapters with the Salvation message for today. 

 

Using scripture in Matthew to support the rapture of the "Church" will get you no where. Matthew is a message to the Jews and their promised earthly kingdom. The "Kingdom of Heaven". Matthew 24 and 25 is explaining the prophesied "jacobs trouble" that is to come upon ISRAEL. Has nothing to do with the "Church" or "Body of Christ".

Abraham and his seed was promised physcal land and a Kingdom to rule the world, not the Gentiles, not you nor I. The Rapture is "Pre-Trib", and was part of the "mysteries" that was revealed to Paul (1 Corinthians 15:35-58, 1 Thessalonians Ch. 4 & 5, 2 Thessalonians Ch. 2). Infact Paul experianced being "Raptured" as I mentioned before (2 Corinthians Chapter 12), and John as well (Revelation Chapter 4). Enoch was the first man to ever be raptured (Hebrews 11:5), as well Elijah was also caught up into a whirlwind of fire the Bible says, escaping natural death (2nd Kings 2:11). 

 

The "Church" is known as the "Body of Christ". You are "sealed unto the day of redemption" (Eph 4:30). God has "not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (1 Thessalonians 5:9). You do NOT have to "endure to the end" to be saved. If your saved, then you are sealed, and you are in the "Kingdom of God". 

 

Only people that will have to "endure" are those that are lost, rejected Jesus, believe in a false gospel (Faith plus works, etc.). Including those "lukewarm" self proclaimed non-repentant "christians" (See Revelation 3:14-18). 

 

Why would Jesus pour out his wrath upon his own body? His own "Bride"? We come back WITH Christ at his second coming. Jude 1:14 - "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints."

 

2 Timothy 2:[15] Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

As I mentioned at the beginning of my article, the Gospel that Paul preached is the same as Jesus preached. The "applications" are the things that changed, depending on the people the message is directed to, during which time (Dispensation). Many say there are two Gospels because Paul says "my gospel". What they don't understand is, Paul said "my gospel" for few reasons. Paul tells us that there are many which corrupt the word of God (2 Corinthians 2:17), perverting the  gospel. 

Galatians 1:7, Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

 

Here we see 2 things. There are some that pervert the gospel, and notice Paul says its the Gospel of Christ. Another reason, I believe is because Paul came on the scene after Peter's "Kingdom of Heaven" message that was to be sent out, Paul didn't want to confuse them with that message with his "But Now" message. 

 

What was different in Pauls gospel compared to Jesus' is the applications. How it was and is to be applied today. "by grace through faith". No longer need to be "baptized" by water to be saved. Once you believe you are sealed with that holy spirit of promise. Baptized into Jesus Christ by one spirit, the Holy Spirit. The applications of that One Gospel changed, not the Gospel itself. Both Jesus and Paul are preaching the "Kingdom of God". Paul just recieved the "Mysteries" of that kingdom. 

This is why understanding the "kingdoms" is important. Under the "kingdom of heaven", Jews had to be baptized in water. They was preparing for the "Kingdom Of Heaven" an earthly kingdom. But, with the stoning of Stephen, that was put on hold. With the "kingdom of God" that is not needed. Christ's blood cleans us of ALL sins. Past, Present, and Future. 

Romans 3:25, Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission4 of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 


Romans 5:9, Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Ephesians 1:7, In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

 

My hope in this article is to help you understand the clear distinctions and differences between the kingdoms.
